I heard that keyboards have matrices of keys wired to diodes and most have like 3-6 diodes .. so you can hold down for example wghl on some cheap keyboard as each key is on a different matrix, but you couldn't hold down 'weds'.

So hard core gamers get keyboards with n-key rollover, meaning if they're holding like all four arrow keys and 5 number keys .. they all still work.

Me, I want to learn steno as shown here:

They say it's possible to get to 225 wpm for most people .. some do 360 wpm and the record is like 600 wpm.

it works by mashing multiple keys at once to make words and phrases, max of 22 keys at once (you don't actually need 22 fingers, as long as at least one key is down the whole time, it's considered a 'chord').

I'd like to know how many diodes and matrixes does the typematrix have ? how many keys can I mash :)

Also, it'd be great if a futre version had n-key rollover if the current one doesn't (which I hope it does already).

You can learn steno yourself with 'plover-fly': http://plover.stenoknight.com/2011/12/fly-plover-fly.html

The other two "special keys" on a Swedish keyboard often gets stuck, and starts to repeatedly print the same char again and again. These two chars are '<', '>'. Pressing any key stops the repetition/jam.

Is this a known issue? It is of course extremely annoying, but I wouldn't abandon my wonderful TypeMatrix 2030 for it. I'm using the older PS/2 keyboards, and I have one at home and one at work. I have tried using the Belkin USB adapter, but it does not fix the issue.]]>

I've been a happy TypeMatrix user for 2 years now. A few days ago, some of the keys stopped working (the row corresponding to "zxcvbnm" on a qwerty layout).

While the key immediately to the left of "enter" still works, all the others don't. I tried to use compressed air to clean whatever could have snuck under the keys, but to no avail. Has anyone had the same experience? Is it fixable?

Thanks!]]>

When I plugin it in and reboot my FreeBSD 9, PS2 mouse doesn't work.
there is no /dev/psm0, there is even no notice about it in dmesg.
However mouse is powered.

I've discovered that in order to get my mouse working I need to plugin my old PS2 keyboard (while having TypeMatrix plugged in, or plug it in later). Now when both keyboards are plugged everything seams to work as expected.

Any ideas why this is happening? (this happens whenever I enable/disable USB keyboard support in BIOS)

http://wiki.freebsd.org/uhidd

Notes:
* When you run uhidd don't use -k flag. This will screw things up with TypeMatrix (Edit: actually this depends on kernel config)
* For Xorg key names, check files in /usr/local/share/X11/xkb/symbols
* Until you have configured uhidd I recommend having PS2 keyboard around. Because
when you will launch uhidd for the first time to generate cc_keymap file, typematrix might not be very usable.
* Don't quit uhidd (when you launch it for the first time) until you have copied cc_keymap file... otherwise it will be removed
* xev might not show that you have pressed key, if it is intercepted by your Window Manager.
* The Eject, Power, Sleep, Wake buttons still won't work (AFAIK)

My personal config (Might not work for you. Who knows....)

i began to learn dvorak a few years ago, and i just discovered BEPO and the new typematrix 2030 layout.

switch ctrl shift alt http://forum.typematrix.com/discussion/4461/switch-ctrl-shift-alt Sat, 05 May 2012 20:24:35 -0400 StephD 4461@/discussions
I d'like to switch shift_L, ctrl_L and alt. So, I've put this in my .xmodmaprc:

clear control
clear shift
clear mod1

keycode 50 = Control_L
keycode 37 = Alt_L
keycode 64 = Shift_L

add control = Control_L Control_R
add shift = Shift_L Shift_R
add mod1 = Alt_L

It works fine but my problem is that my "cut, copy, paste" keys are also changed.
Is there a solution to this?

Thanks.

I got a problem with my 2030 USB Typematrix keyboard. I am using it intesively for 2 years and half, but today, the end and down arrow key are stucked.

Checking the result in a program like XEV, I got that these keys are always pressed. (I have a long list of keycode 115 and 114...). Touching hese keys sometimes stops the feed ....But globally the keyboard is unusuable now ...

I have extremely hard time to use another keyboard, so I hope you have some solution for me!

Thank you]]>

On Linux and Windows, I switch the keyboard to 106 mode in order to remap the switch app key and desktop key to additional Ctrl keys (had to remap backslash key to "ç" and some app launch key too but no big deal).

On OSX, when switching to 106 mode, the switch app and desktop keys are not working at all, when using EventViewer of KeyRemap4Macbok. Is there any tricks or drivers for OSX to make these keys working? I miss these additional Ctrl :(]]>

Is there a method for pulling the key off, ensuring it is seated correctly and/or removing any debris, and replacing it? I don't want to just go it without direction for fear of damaging it further and/or voiding my warranty.

blank keys and stikers http://forum.typematrix.com/discussion/6/blank-keys-and-stikers Fri, 17 Sep 2010 13:12:48 -0400 Naugrim 6@/discussions
I have read about the future programable keyboard.

My question is, in this case will it be possible to buy it with blank keys.
And buy the letter stikers appart, to stick them where we program the corresponding keycodes ?

I have yet to order one though, because I'm waiting for the German version.

Meanwhile, I have a suggestion.
For designers with graphic tablets it's always been a compromise where to place the keyboard in respect to the tablet. If placed nearer to the screen one would have to stretch, if placed closer to one self it would get in the way when drawing. Placing it on one side of the tablet would strain one arm. Placing it *on* the tablet is not an option.
so my suggestion is to create a split wireless keyboard of which one half can be placed left of the tablet and one half on the right.
Ideally, one would be able to connect them together, so they form a single keyboard (useful for transportation and when at a pc without a tablet). But also having the option of connecting the separate halves with a cable plus the possibility to connect the keyboard to the pc with a cable (for recharging, as mentioned elsewhere in this forum).

I know, this would be quite a project, but I think it woudl be extremely useful for people who use a keyboard only occasionally (apart from keyboard shortcuts) but if so then intensively .

What do you think?]]>
