Unable to get Alt-Ins to work correctly

Hi,

I'm using the TypeMatrix (102) with the Norwegian keyboard and layout in Windows 7.
When i try to use the shortcut Alt-Ins (Fn-Alt-Del) the expected behavior does not happen in the program I'm using (Resharper).

Are there any way to make the selected shortcut work? Currently i have two keyboards attached, and the shortcut Alt-Ins works as expected on the other keyboard.

On a Mac the Command key has an awkward position. There are workarounds but I think they come with their own problems. Remapping the keys in System Preferences remaps both Alt keys when you really only want to remap the left one, and Fn+F4 (Mac mode) is something you have to do every time you boot, and you can't use that in combination with Dvorak or Colemak mode.

I finally found a proper solution which can fix that and other things like the App/Copy/Cut/Paste keys especially for TypeMatrix 2030 users: http://pqrs.org/macosx/keyremap4macbook/ Even though it's called "Key Remap 4 MacBook" it works with other Macs, not just MacBooks. In fact I'm using it on a Hackintosh with no issues at all.

A sidenote: It can remap QWERTY -> Colemak similar to how the keyboard does it with Fn+F5. Using a custom layout in OS X doesn't work in all apps, such as StarCraft II but it does using this app.

A colleague and I ordered 2 TypeMatrix 2030 with Black french azerty skins, but belgium azerty skins have been delivered instead (and unfortunately, we are french).

We already have send a mail to Agnès but we did not hqve any answer for now.

What is the procedure to receive the french azerty that we ordered?

Is there any chance that the forum will be better moderated, and perhaps better anti-spam functionality enabled? Perhaps enable some functionality where "ordinary" users can mark posts as spam, so they get hidden from everybody. I wouldn't mind cleaning up the forum for free, it would take a couple of minutes.

It's unusable now.

UK Dvorak layout

Hi, just wanted to know whether you had any plans to create a UK Dvorak layout keyboard, not a skin, as I would prefer not to have to use a skin if possible.

My other alternative would be to buy a us layout model, and use stickers and the keyboard remapping tool you've mentioned elsewhere. I'm not sure where this option would have any knock-on impact to mappings at boot time on windows or linux?

What would you recommend?

TypeMatrix 2030 not working after Windows7 (x64) restart

My 2 week old type matrix has become an unidentified USB device after a recent system restart. The problem seems like it might be connected to the windows update that preceeded the restart but I could be wrong.

Looking around on the site, and on the web, I can't find any downloadable drivers for this device but I'm pretty sure it must need some.

Anyone have any ideas what might be going on or is it fried?

Hi, I can't seem to get my browser key to work in linux, I'm running Ubuntu with Gnome. Nothing happens when I hit the key.

I have the email key working fine (it actually opens a browser into gmail compose message), but the browser key doesn't seem to be hooked up to anything. Anyone set this up?

(Mac + Bepo) Copy & Paste Keys

I bought a TypeMatrix 2030 Bepo for my Macintosh, and I installed the keyboard layouts from http://bepo.fr, but I was badly suprised to notice that Copy & Paste keys (I am talking about the Fn keys) do not work. On the sheet that came with the keyboard, I found written in small letters:

"Fn + Cut, Copy, Paste shortcuts work in Windows & Linux only"

This is a huge, huge disappointment. Is there some way to make the Copy & Paste keys work on Mac OS X?

OSX, 106 mode, switch app and desktop keys

Hi!

On Linux and Windows, I switch the keyboard to 106 mode in order to remap the switch app key and desktop key to additional Ctrl keys (had to remap backslash key to "ç" and some app launch key too but no big deal).

On OSX, when switching to 106 mode, the switch app and desktop keys are not working at all, when using EventViewer of KeyRemap4Macbok. Is there any tricks or drivers for OSX to make these keys working? I miss these additional Ctrl :(

Thank you for a great design idea (hopefully the Typematrix will surpass my expectations when I actually get it), I just ordered a 2030. What is a reasonable delivery estimate to Ireland? Is there some tracking info/website I may use?

Unrelated, please note that although I had a voucher for a discount (I joined the mailing list before the purchase) and this is my first Typematrix, the voucher has been refused because the software kept saying that I had already bought a keyboard, which is false. I was charged full price: a refund for the amount of the voucher would be really appreciated.

As well a suggestion for the checkout process: I was unable to see the full price while I was going through the confirmation in Paypal: it would be much better if the full charge was visible from the first Paypal screen.

Lost key?

Hi, I'm stuck trying to find where on the 2030 a key is. In Spanish layouts we have the key between the "z" and the shift key (see http://imageshack.us/f/466/tecladoej6.jpg/), but that key dissapeared on the typematrix layout.

Should I have to remap any of the app. keys?

Way to lock Mac mode?

I'm a new TypeMatrix user. So far, it's been quite fun, although a bit of an adjustment. After about a week and a half, my speed and accuracy is finally starting to get back to normal (47wpm before TM / 24wpm first staring TM / 35wpm currently).

As I am a Mac user and a MacBook Pro user, my keyboard frequently gets disconnected. By doing this, each time I reconnect I have to re-apply the Mac mode. This can be frustrating, especially when I forget and can't figure out why my keyboard commands aren't working. Is there a way to get the layout mode to stick in between disconnections?

Also, all the media keys work in mac mode, except the Play/Pause button. If I switch back to normal layout, the play/pause works, but in Mac mode, it prints the publisher mark §. Any way to chage/fix/map the keys? Can we program the modes of our TypeMatrix?

As someone with large hands I have been looking for large key keyboards. It appears the only ones that exist achieve this by eliminating some keys.

Has any consideration been given to the possibility of using the TypeMatrix 2030's efficient design not to shrink the keyboard size, but to increase the size of the keys in a conventionally sized keyboard? This could be a unique advantage, aimed at people with large hands, or with physical disabilities such as shaky hands or poor vision.

Colemak layout, Mac OS X and the "show desktop key"

I've had the typematrix 2030 keyboard for about 6 months now and I'm loving it. However, it does have one annoyance for me: Show desktop.

I absolutely never use this, and I'd rather have it mapped to be a second Mac Command key.

I've tried various pieces of software but haven't managed it yet.

I assume if I can remap the Show Desktop key, then I can also remap the other keys to match the Colemak layout.

I've been through the discussions and have seen people discussing 106 mode...

Can anyone help please?

I'm researching specs and customer reviews of keyboards for my iMac. My first choice, after seeing the PC-version in action is the Logitech DiNovo Edge Rechargeable Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac. Unfortunately it doesn't have a dedicated 10-key which I need. So I need to find a good 10-key that's compatible with this keyboard. A mouse too. I've stayed away from all cordless devices after experiencing crappy battery life; hence the above keyboard. Please offer recommendations and reasons for your choices. The whole set will be a b-day present for my husband who has zero tolerance for computer products that make you jump through hoops.

1. Short length/Moved Numpad (A huge issue for gaming and large inconvenience in overall mouse use)
1. Vertical key columns [A thought I have always had about keyboards and (Great for typing, and gaming actually)
2. Great Price (Compared to other keyboards, the 2030 really puts down essential features first)
3. Low key travel + thin profile overall.
4. Ability for additional typing formats.
I have always had thoughts about keyboards and how they could be redesigned, the 2030 really addresses my desires for the ideal keyboard.

Norwegian dvorak

Hi all!
When changing to dvorak (fn+F1) I cannot find the å key, the ø and æ are where they should be. Anyone know where the å is hiding?

I have also made a keyboard layout for W7 that places the æ, ø and å to where the respective Swedish vowels on the svorak skin.

But it would be handy to replace the resident dvorak layout (fn+F1) with the modified svorak one.

B.T.W.: I have had my Typematrix for two days now and not missing my old Razer Lycosa one bit, well maybe the backlit keys on the razer ;-)

Backslash in UK qwerty layout?

2030 USB on mac, function key does nothing?

Hi,

I have two USB 2030 keyboards. I find that i prefer to not type on anything other these days.

My question is as follows:

On my mac running osx 10.6 the function key seems to do nothing... i really don't care about the copy/paste functionality, but i desperately need the ability to hit "function+delete" in order to send the insert signal...

Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas on how to remedy it?

Can I use the 2030 with any keybouard layout on a windows computer, like my ordenary 101 keyboard does?
I would like to be able to switch between qwerty, dvorak or my own layout.

I cannot type on a normal keyboard with 10 fingers. I seem to lack contole over my right hand bottom row. So I'v an intrest in your keyboard withe straight collums.

I received my TypeMatrix a few days ago, and am enjoying the experience (if not the process of getting used to the layout). I do have one key, the "N" key, which works but required substantially more force to press than any of the others. The result of which is that I miss over half of my presses on that key when I'm touch typing.

Is there a method for pulling the key off, ensuring it is seated correctly and/or removing any debris, and replacing it? I don't want to just go it without direction for fear of damaging it further and/or voiding my warranty.

number pad in ubuntu

I'm working in Ubuntu 10.04 with a brand new TMx 2030 USB. I cannot access the number pad. Pressing a function key and one of the number keys does nothing or something random. I did configure the keyboard under Keyboard Preferences, and this model is listed as TypeMatrix EZ-Reach 2030 USB. I had the same problem with my old. TypeMatrix EZR 2030. How can I get the numeric keypad to work?

I believe in the common-sense ideas behind TypeMatrix keyboards, but I failed to make the switch. I tried hard. I bought an old-style TypeMatrix 2030, the one with a red "Del" key and a PS/2 cable. Later, I bought a newer TypeMatrix 2030, with a USB cable. I hoped that the newer version might fix some oddities of the older version. It helped somewhat, but I still couldn't fully transition to the TypeMatrix boards. I'm a Mac user. I like Apple keyboards better because:

1. Consistent modifier keys. On the larger, wired Apple keyboards with a numeric keypad, the Shift, Command, Option, and Control keys are symmetric in size and placement, and equidistant from the space bar. I use all three modifiers a lot, sometimes in combination. They are all oversized on the Apple keyboard, so they're easy to find and hit. The TypeMatrix is lopsided - there's only one Command key, labeled "start". The left and right Option and Control keys are different sizes.

2. Feel. TypeMatrix keys have a very nice smooth, quiet feel. Apple is quite similar, but with shorter travel, which I think is better.

3. No dead or mystery keys. I made this table to help learn the newer TypeMatrix 2030 with Mac OS X Snow Leopard:

4. Mac-specific keys that, no surprise, work very well with a Mac.

I like the TypeMatrix keyboards because:

1. The grid layout. For the first time in my life, I was able to touch-type the top-row numeric keys with some accuracy. This is very important when writing software, because programs contain a lot of the special characters on that row.

2. Center placement of the "Enter" and "Back Space" keys. It's just so obviously right!

3. Better nubs and ridges. It's easier to feel your way around a TypeMatrix. The Apple's keys all have the same surface. The nubs and ridges are in the right places on my Dvorak TypeMatrix. On my Apples with the keys manually rearranged, the few nubs are on the wrong keys.

I tried, and I now use Apple keyboards.

I think the rumored programmable TypeMatrix keyboard may solve the dead key issue for me. That may make the TypeMatrix attractive enough that I'll finally make the switch.

I realize that some keys will have labels that don't reflect their effect. For me, the solution is to just ignore the labels. I don't like the silicon-skin solution to the problem. I have a silicon-skin made by KB Covers for my Mac laptop. It gives me the Dvorak layout. I don't really like the skin, but I don't want to move the keycaps on the laptop, so it's a workable solution. Luckily, I can usually use an external keyboard, with repositioned keycaps. I find the slight loss of feel to be too great for all-day use of a skin. Stickers might work, but I doubt that they wouldn't rub off with time.

I hope this might help other Mac users who want to use TypeMatrix keyboards.

Split wireless keyboard

Hi!
I think that the TypeMatrix keyboard is great. I have yet to order one though, because I'm waiting for the German version.

Meanwhile, I have a suggestion.
For designers with graphic tablets it's always been a compromise where to place the keyboard in respect to the tablet. If placed nearer to the screen one would have to stretch, if placed closer to one self it would get in the way when drawing. Placing it on one side of the tablet would strain one arm. Placing it *on* the tablet is not an option.
so my suggestion is to create a split wireless keyboard of which one half can be placed left of the tablet and one half on the right.
Ideally, one would be able to connect them together, so they form a single keyboard (useful for transportation and when at a pc without a tablet). But also having the option of connecting the separate halves with a cable plus the possibility to connect the keyboard to the pc with a cable (for recharging, as mentioned elsewhere in this forum).

I know, this would be quite a project, but I think it woudl be extremely useful for people who use a keyboard only occasionally (apart from keyboard shortcuts) but if so then intensively .

What do you think?

Keyboard ghosting

Where 3 or more keys are simultaneously depressed, will the 2030 recognise the input of all 3 keys?

For example:
Depressing A, W & C together or while holding CTRL then depressing A and W keys together, will all 3 keys be registered as input to a PC?

International shipping rate for TM skins

I’ve just seen that French skins are available again. I was interesting in one of these ($20, that’s not too expensive) but then I saw the International shipping rate: $44.12! It’s more than twice as much as the skin price…
If I can understand the high International shipping rate for the keyboard (its package must be strong, etc.), why is there only that way of shipping for the skins?
